Alan Natachu shares his gratitude

Jan. 28, 2016, was the day I woke up from a colonoscopy and heard the words “You have cancer.” My official diagnosis was Stage III Colorectal Cancer (CRC).

When someone thinks about cancer, they often will think about the negatives like chemotherapy and hair loss. What they don’t (and I didn’t for that matter) think about are the positives that came from cancer.

The Madison College community came to the aid of me and my family. I would like to thank you for all you’ve done for us.

The Madison College GHC Clinic was the start of my path to wellness. My CRC symptoms of were atypical. My age was definitely atypical of a CRC patient. It was during a visit to the clinic that I was given orders for a colonoscopy. To the Madison College GHC Clinic, thank you.

My colleagues in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) came to my assistance immediately. They helped me find balance with my work, family and cancer treatments. And they went above and beyond to make sure my family was taken care of. To my colleagues in CETL, thank you.

The Madison College community came together to help us out. Staff, Faculty and Admins offered sympathy, hope and support in my journey. HR helped me navigate the red tape associated with having cancer. Payroll was especially kind to me when I had “chemo brain.” To the Madison College Community, thank you.

Thank you, Madison College. I am grateful for all you provided.
