Nominate now for the Madison College Athletics Hall of Fame

The Madison College Athletic Hall of Fame honors outstanding athletes, coaches and persons connected with the athletic department at the Madison College Athletic Banquet every spring. This year's athletic banquet is on Wednesday, April 19.

If you know of someone who fulfills the Hall of Fame nomination criteria below and is deserving of the honor, please nominate them online at the Madison College Hall of Fame Page.

Athlete:

  • Must have been an outstanding performer in one or more intercollegiate varsity sports while attending Madison College.
  • Athletic achievements must be official and registered in the athletic yearbook or on the athletic website.
  • Must have been a good citizen while at Madison College.
  • Must continue to be a citizen in good standing, not causing any unfavorable publicity for the college or community.
  • Must have completed athletic participation at Madison Area Technical College ten or more years ago.

Coach:

  • Must have been an outstanding coach at the college for seven or more years.
  • Coaching achievements must be officially recorded in the athletic office.
  • Must have continued to be a citizen in good standing, not causing any unfavorable publicity for the college or community.
  • Must have completed his/her coaching duties five or more years ago. Current coaches could be considered if he/she has coached continuously for twenty (20) years or more.

Other:

  • Any person who has demonstrated outstanding loyalty, dedication and service to the Madison College Athletic Department.
  • Must be or have been a success in his/her given line of work.
  • Must be an outstanding citizen and not caused unfavorable publicity for the college or community.

Raffle ticket sales to benefit softball program

Madison College softball is currently selling raffle tickets to help raise money for the WolfPack softball program. 

Tickets are sold for $10 per ticket, or three for $25 by softball student-athletes and coaches. The drawing will be held on February 23rd at 12 p.m. All proceeds from the raffle will help support the 2016-17 softball program.

There will be a total of 34 winners -- four will win $250, 10 will win $100 and 20 will win $50.

Sophmore earns second NJCAA Player of the Week

For the second time this basketball season, Madison College sophomore Rachel Slaney has been named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week, this time for the span of Jan. 2-8 (Week 10). This honor is the second of her career and of the season after receiving the same accolade for Nov. 28-Dec. 4 (Week 5).

In Memoriam: Ronald Carlson

Ronald G. Carlson, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, in Madison. He was married to Jewel (Scholl) on August 8, 1964, and they shared 52 years of lifetime experiences.

Carlson taught at Madison College, guiding students as they pursued careers in the travel industry. He loved to travel and expanded his opportunities by leading trips with Pete Wilmarth all over the world. Carlson shared his many passions with everyone he knew, including his love of music, especially classical and operatic performances, his love of travel and learning new things and his enthusiasm for life. Over the years, the Carlsons had five wonderful Wheaton terriers, each one a joy in their lives. Ron will be greatly missed by his many friends, but especially by the love of his life, Jewel Carlson.

A Celebration of Ron's life will be held at Blackhawk Church, 9620 Brader Way (off Mineral Point Rd), Verona, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12. In Memoriam: Steven Houser

Steven R. Houser, age 59, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, of an apparent heart attack after successfully bringing his semi-truck to a safe stop. He was born on May 15, 1957, as the son of Ron and MaryEllen Houser. He married Marlene Brown, his high school sweetheart on Apr. 28, 1979. Steve graduated La Follette High School in 1975 where he was a three-sport letter-winner. He went on to play football at the University of Northern Iowa. After developing his family, he carried on his love for sports by coaching wrestling and football locally. Steve was an avid sports fan and statistician.

He is survived by his wife Marlene (Brown) Houser; Children, Lucas Houser, Trevor (Erin) Houser and Dontay (Cheri) Harper; sister Terrie (Rick) Thorstad; Brother-in-Laws, Mike Matheson, Don Brown, Mark (Michelle) Brown and Mike (Anna) Brown; along with so many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Connie. Funeral Services will be held at Bristol Lutheran Church, 6835 County Hwy N, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m., on Thursday Dec. 22.

Visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care at 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday Dec. 21, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial may be made to the Clean Lakes Alliance, 150 E. Gilman St., Suite 2600, Madison, 53703, or for local youth sports in care of Steve's Family. Online condolences may be made here.
