Student James LaPinske awarded "Tools of the Trade" scholarship

The Watertown Daily Times published an article on the Great Lakes recent scholarship award Wednesday, March 23.

James LaPinske from Watertown is one of 45 Madison College construction and industrial trades apprentices awarded with the "Tools of the Trade" scholarship. The scholarship will help offset the cost of materials and tuition.

Dr. Sheppard on Channel 3

Political science instructor Maurice Sheppard is doing a live studio interview with Channel 3 Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 a.m.

Dr. Sheppard will analyze results from Wisconsin’s primary election.

More media interviews for Lucia Nunez – Madison College’s vice president for Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.

Nunez is talking to the Madison Times and Wisconsin Public Television about President Obama’s visit to Cuba. Nunez was born in Cuba and visited the country last summer for the first time in about 50 years.

The TV interview will air statewide this Friday at 7:30 p.m. No word yet on when the newspaper article will run.

One newly appointed and two reappointed to Madison College District Board

Marcia Whittington, chief development officer for Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care, has been appointed to the Madison College District Board. Meanwhile, current trustees Shawn Pfaff and Joe Hasler were reappointed to three-year terms.

The appointments were recently reported in the Wisconsin State Journal (third story in “On Campus” article).

Madison College Criminal Justice Chair Brian Landers talked to Channel 3 and Fox 47 about the Brussels terrorist attack.

Landers discussed the ever-changing security challenges for law enforcement and offered tips on what the public can do to help prevent terrorist acts.

What do Cuban Americans think about President Obama’s historic visit to Cuba? Some are excited – others resentful.

Lucia Nunez, Madison College’s vice president for Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement, was born in Cuba and visited the country last summer for the first time in some 50 years.

Nunez talked to Channel 3 and Fox 47 and Wisconsin Radio Network today about the mixed emotions Cuban Americans are feeling toward the visit.

No word yet on when the radio interview will air.

Badger State Spelling Bee in the Mitby Theater

Nearly 50 kids from across Wisconsin were at the Mitby Theater Friday, March 18, to compete in the Badger State Spelling Bee. The top three spellers advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The Wisconsin State Journal, Channel 3 and Channel 27 stopped by the Truax campus to capture the excitement. The winning word was “pharmacognosy.”
