Veteran Resource Services staff at Madison College will host an event honoring veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 7 with a program beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Room D1630 of the Truax campus.
Allan Locia, Veteran Resource Services coordinator, will introduce the VRS staff. The ceremony includes presenting of the colors, the national anthem and pledge of allegiance.
Kenneth Cole, president of the Veterans Club, will give a short speech.
Dajon Ferrell, who served as active duty and traditional soldier in the Army National Guard for 13 years, will give the keynote address. Through her own struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, Ferrell eventually chose meditation over medication. She founded several veterans organizations in the Minneapolis area and provides classes, workshops and other events to unite others on a mission. Her personal goal is to help individuals rise up and live their most authentic lives.
Madison College President Dr. Jack Daniels III will give closing remarks. At 1:45 p.m. refreshments will be served followed by a break-out session on Embracing Diversity presented by Luke Matthews, Anthropology department chair.
The event is sponsored by Retention Initiatives and Student Engagement Programs and Student Development and Retention Services.
