Approximately 100 local high school students will spend the day at Madison College on Friday, May 5 competing and demonstrating their skills in basic automotive technology and electricity in the Firestone Challenge. The participants will have hands-on experience in the brakes lab, electrical lab and drivability lab. They will also complete a component quiz and a test similar to the Automotive Service Excellence certification exam. Awards and prizes will be presented at the end of the event.
Last year, Sun Prairie High School students won a car for their auto tech lab. Other prizes include tools and equipment for the schools.
Madison College offers a two-year Automotive Technician technical diploma and an Automotive Technology-Comprehensive associate degree in applied science.
