Free flu shots available on campus in October

Save a trip to the clinic; get your flu shot at Madison College. Please join us in October and encourage your students and colleagues to participate.

This fall Madison College is offering free, walk-in flu shot clinics at most campus locations. Our nursing and EMS students will be administering the flu shots alongside faculty members and GHC nurses. Each year, these flu clinics provide valuable clinical experience for our students.

Flu shots on the following days will be free of charge for students who are taking credit classes and employees who are covered by GHC, WPS, or Medicare insurance:

Tuesday, Oct. 2
10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Truax Protective Services Building

Wednesday, Oct. 3
10 a.m.-12 p.m., Fort Atkinson Campus
2-4 p.m., Watertown Campus

Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 10-11
10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Truax Cafeteria Mall

Tuesday, Oct. 16
8:30 - 10:30 a.m., South Campus
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Downtown Campus
2:30 - 3:30 p.m., Commercial Avenue Campus

Tuesday, Oct. 23
9-10:30 a.m., Portage Campus
12-2 p.m., Reedsburg Campus

Students should bring their OneCard, and employees should bring their GHC, WPS, or Medicare insurance card to get a free flu shot.

This year, we are offering the quadrivalent influenza vaccine from multi-dose vials with latex-free syringes (Flulaval, GlaxoSmithKline).

Some people shouldn’t get a flu shot on campus, so please check with your health care provider if you have:

  • A current fever or illness
  • An immune disorder that requires you to have preservative-free vaccines
  • A history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • An allergy to eggs, thimerosal (preservative), formaldehyde (virus deactivator), sodium deoxycholate (detergent), α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate (adjuvant), or polysorbate 80 (stabilizer)

Ask your health care provider or visit the Centers for Disease Control website to decide if a flu shot is right for you.
