The Advising Learning Series is an opportunity for employees to grow their advising skills. Topics and presenters vary by date. Registering can be done via Eventbrite.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Communication Skills in Advising with Anna Relerford, LAT/TOPS/MoE Advisor

An experienced advisor will discuss the advisor-advisee relationship, how to apply active listening, high leverage skills and practices to build a strong relationship with students. Participants will also practice advising scenarios and communication skills.

Friday, Oct. 18, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Math and English Placement and Advising with Bernie Hoes and Pam Larson, English and Math instructors

Participants will learn how to better understand placement scores and how to help students choose the best English and math paths to their goals.

Thursday, Nov. 7, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Financial Aid 101 with Liz Hirsch, Financial Aid and Training Analyst

Learn about the application process, types of aid, timeline, important dates and communications to students. Time will be available for questions.

Friday, Dec. 6, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
UW-Madison Transfer Contract with Corina Diaz Suazo, LAT Lead Advisor

Participants will learn about the nuances and new aspects of the UW-Madison Transfer Contract. Including what the contract eligibility and requirements are.
