Roof repair affects Truax parking

Madison College is continually investing in our facilities to allow us to better serve our mission, vision and values. Projects range from small updates to existing spaces to large-scale maintenance to new construction. Each project includes an overview, current status, and estimated completion date.

2018 Projects:

Project Name: D18026: Truax – New Photovoltaic System

Overview: Pursuant to an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), MG&E has granted $500,000 to a new solar Photovoltaic (PV) project at the Truax Campus. The MG&E grant funds combined with a Madison College contribution of $2,587,500 will fund a new 1.868MW rooftop PV system. The system includes 5,750 panels and will be the largest roof-mounted system in Wisconsin.

Timeline: Construction will be complete June 2019.

Project Name: D19017: Truax Roof Replacement 2018

This week (March 11) and next week’s (March 18) warm weather will allow a restart of the roofing replacement project during spring break. As a result, the east Anderson Street entrance to the childcare drop-off, cafeteria entrance and metered parking will be closed due to a large crane, delivery trucks and roof materials. Starting Saturday, March 16 - Friday, March 22, the gated lot will be open, but access will be in and out from the west entrance along Anderson Street. Parking will return to normal after spring break.

Overview: This project includes replacing various roofs (gymnasium, fitness center, theater, entire third floor roof, south standing seam sloped metal roof) at the Truax Campus in advance of the new photovoltaic panel system from MG&E.

Timeline: The south facing sloped metal roofs, gymnasium, fitness center, theater and third floor main roofs are complete. 

Project Name: D18016: Truax Campus Fire Alarm Replacement Project 2018/19

Overview: This project will expand the new fire alarm systems from the culinary addition to the remaining main campus, all floors, B, D, E wings, and large animal barn. Original fire alarm equipment will be removed after new systems are in place and operational summer 2019.

Timeline: Construction will begin September 2018 and be complete August 2019.

Project Name: D18046: Regional Campus Fire Alarm Replacement Projects 2018/19

Overview: This project will provide new fire alarm systems at Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown. Original fire alarm equipment will be removed after new systems are in place and operational summer 2019.

Timeline: Construction has started at Portage and Reedsburg. Fort Atkinson and Watertown will begin over winter break. All four regionals will be complete August 2019.

Project Name: Truax PV Observation Deck

Overview: Renovate an existing third-floor room to provide public access to the new roof mounted solar panel system. The project includes a new ADA compliant interior ramp, new exterior door and a roof mounted platform with railing system. The interior roof access area will be upgraded with new flooring, ceilings, lighting and several student workstations.

Timeline: Construction is underway with completion March 2019.

Project Name: Health Education Building-Center for Health & Well-Being

Overview: Create a staff wellness center adjacent to the first floor main office. The project includes a new second floor office/conference area.

Timeline: Construction is complete. The center will be open soon.

2019 Projects:

Project Name: Portage Campus – Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvement/Office Addition

Overview: A small addition at the main entry plaza will provide a new ADA compliant entrance and space to expand the adjacent main office area to improve customer service.

Timeline: Construction will begin spring 2019 and be complete prior to Fall 2019 semester.

Project Name: Truax Bookstore/Duplicating Remodel

Overview: Accommodate additional programming from the Downtown Education Center (DTEC), provide necessary space for the college’s textbook rental program, and relocate the college duplication center from the second floor to space within the bookstore and adjacent to the loading dock.

Timeline: Construction will begin March 2019 with textbook rental complete by Thursday, May 30, electronics lab complete by Thursday, Aug. 15, and duplication complete in November 2019. 

Project Name: Truax Academic Advancement (AA) Offices

Overview: Reconfigure existing space adjacent to the A&S Office for AA staff relocating from DTEC to Truax.

Timeline: Construction will begin March 2019 and be complete prior to June 1, 2019.

Project Name: Renovate Truax Athletics Locker/Shower Rooms

Overview: The locker/shower rooms adjacent to the gymnasium, pool, and fitness center will be reconfigured and upgraded to better service students and meet current ADA standards.

Timeline: Project in design. Completion date to be determined.

Project Name: Truax Faculty Multimedia Studio

Overview: Reconfigure existing open workstations to create a multimedia studio within the existing Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) office area.

Timeline: Completion date to be determined.

Project Name: Foundation Center-Consolidate Finance Department

Overview: Merge Finance, Payroll, and Purchasing Departments into a single connected area on the first floor of the Foundation Center.

Timeline: Construction will begin March 2019 and be complete June 1, 2019. 

Project Name: Truax-Convert Tennis Courts to Student Parking 

Overview: Reconstruct tennis court area into student parking with lights, landscaping, drainage and sidewalk along Wright St. the project may include rebuilding Straubel Street to the Robin Roberts baseball field.

Timeline: Construction will begin in summer 2019 and be complete prior to the fall semester.
