Instructor honored for educating meteorologists

Dr. Scott Lindstrom, Adjunct Part-time Weather and Climate faculty in the Department of Physical Sciences, received the National Weather Association's Larry R. Johnson Award this semester. Lindstrom was presented with the award at the annual meeting of the National Weather Association, in Huntsville, Alabama, on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The award was "For outstanding efforts in educating operational meteorologists on the uses and benefits of the new GOES series of satellites." The honor also recognizes work that started at the Science and Operations Officer Prep Course at the National Weather Service Training Center in 2016 and 2017. This work continues in the form of in-person training visits to forecast offices, development of training documents and videos, along with blogging about satellite data uses.

Scott accomplished this work at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, Space Science and Engineering Center, at UW-Madison.
